Protecting the environment is a priority

Scroll down

Managing and mitigating the environmental impact of our work is a core focus of our everyday activities.

To promote awareness and responsibility among our staff and contractors, our Safety and Assurance team publishes a monthly Safety and Assurance Bulletin. This covers the key environmental issues that are relevant to our managers, operatives and contractors.

We also provide regular updates on diffuse pollution, together with online diffuse pollution training for all staff. This must be completed prior to entering a site.

This approach ensures our managers and contractors are always aware of the environmental legislation compliance obligations that affect them, and key areas, such as: pollution, oil spills and response, and protected species.

To minimise our impact further, all our equipment complies with European Emissions Standard IV.

Shared values. Shared responsibility

As a BSW Group company, we have a shared will to create value, achieve sustainable growth and eliminate inefficiencies. We know that we have a responsibility to help drive positive change.

That’s why we’ve developed this comprehensive policy statement to provide the framework for setting and reviewing environmental performance.

Our environmental initiatives

As a business, we are committed to becoming more sustainable the more we grow. We will do this through a programme of continuous improvement at all levels, ensuring all employees are made aware of the steps they can take to reduce their environmental footprint. We’re also committed to:

Caring for the environment

We will ensure that site planning and good felling and extraction practices help minimise the impact on the environment. We will also embed pollution prevention within our working practices, and be proactive in anticipating and minimising risk.

Ensuring clean, tidy and litter-free forests

As a SEPA licensed waste carrier, we will use strict processes to segregate, remove and recycle waste. These are part of our Environmental Policy and give staff and subcontractors clear and compliant guidance for handling hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

Planning to prevent pollution

For sites of significant risk, we will develop water management plans. We will also undertake ecological checks on site as work progresses, and monitor water courses to prevent diffuse pollution.

Engaging the local community

We will ensure local communities in each region are kept fully informed of all planned services. Our area managers will conduct outreach to local authorities, community organisations and businesses and hold engagement sessions that allow the community to ask questions and give feedback on planned works.
